Host-to-Host (H2H) Integration
Welcome to Modem Pay’s Host-to-Host (H2H) documentation. This guide is designed for partners who want to connect directly to Modem Pay via secure HTTP endpoints. With H2H, your system communicates programmatically with ours, no dashboards, no manual steps, just reliable, automated transactions.
H2H is intended for trusted partners only. Access is controlled per business, so only authorized partners can interact with these endpoints. This ensures the system remains secure, while still giving you full control over payments and transfers from your own infrastructure.
What is H2H?
Host-to-Host (H2H) is a direct server-to-server integration with Modem Pay. Instead of using a web interface or merchant app, your system connects through authenticated API requests over HTTPS. This gives you full control over payments, transfers, and inquiries directly from your infrastructure.
Key features:
- HTTPS + JSON: standard web protocols, no custom formats.
- Server-to-server communication for automated workflows.
- Partner-only access: H2H endpoints require explicit authorization tied to your business account.
- Secure authentication via API keys and digital signatures.
- Scalable to handle high-volume or automated transactions.
Note: H2H is currently available for mobile money integrations only. For bank or card transactions, use the Merchant API or Payment Links.
When to Use H2H
H2H is ideal if your business:
- Requires seamless, automated transaction processing.
- Wants real-time control over payments and settlements.
- Handles large transaction volumes with guaranteed reliability.
- Integrates Modem Pay as part of a core platform or product offering.
Security and Access Control
To ensure H2H is used safely:
- Authorized Partners Only: Each partner must be explicitly added to the H2H system. Access can be revoked instantly if necessary.
- API Key Validation: Every request is authenticated with your API key.
- Incremental Scoping: Initially, partners have access to all H2H endpoints. Over time, access can be scoped to specific endpoints (e.g., payout-only or pay-in-only).
- Monitoring & Logging: All H2H activity is logged to detect unusual behavior and ensure compliance with terms.
What You’ll Need
Before you start integrating H2H, make sure you have:
- A Modem Pay business account.
- API credentials issued for your business.
- Sandbox access for development and testing.
- A callback URL in your system to receive webhook notifications.
